The Power of the Mind




We all have our own story, our own map of the world, a unique lens through which we perceive our experiences.


For some of you, that will be a lens of positivity and optimism. Perhaps a ‘growth mindset’ – being open to opportunities, ways to continuously evolve and develop into even greater beings.


On the other hand, you may find that you are on the other end of that scale. Looking through a lens of negativity, stuck-ness, and maybe hopelessness. For you, life might feel challenging, maybe even like it is always against you – with everything always going wrong. So much so, that your internal dialogue is ‘Bad things always happen to me’ amongst other highly critical and nasty self-talk.

So here is the thing. Our minds are formidable. If you want to change, and are willing to put in the work…you have everything you need within you to truly become the person you want to be. This sounds too good to be true – if this is possible – then WHY aren’t we all living our best lives???


Brilliant question – the work to create positive behavioural change involves rewiring and restructuring your brain. Creating new neurological pathways, so that you open yourself up to receiving information that is in alignment with who you want to be and the goals that you are striving for.


The brain is a pattern finding machine. There are millions of bits of information coming into our brain every second. So really, if we tried to process all of that information – it would be serious overload. So each of us has our own internal processing system which deletes, distorts and generalises information through a series of filters including our beliefs, values, attitudes, language, memories and meta programs.

For example, if you wanted to be financially successful in business – but had a deep routed unconscious belief that you were not worthy of success, or had an underlying fear of success. Well, I am afraid the information filtering through would never get you in alignment with your goal. The unconscious mind controls your behaviour. So with belief such as ‘I am not good enough’, ‘I am not worthy of success’ – you will not be opening your eyes to the opportunity and possibility of success, and you will certainly not be taking the action required to get there. Therefore, it might not seem possible for you. So you say stuck. You stay in a job that maybe you dread – because the option of something greater doesn’t feel like its available to you.
